Scoliosis an abnormal curvature of the spine. There are many classifications of scoliosis. The most common ones are as listed:

            • Idiopathic

            • Neuromuscular

            • Congenial

            • Trauma

Idiopathic- is the most common form of scoliosis is, which most often develops in adolescents and typically progresses during the adolescent growth spurt. There is no known cause of idiopathic scoliosis.

Neuromuscular-This may occur when the spine curves to the side due to weakness of the spinal muscles or neurologic problems. For example, people with cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy.

Congenital- very rare form of congenital malformation of the spine. Patients with congenital scoliosis will often develop scoliotic deformities in their infancy.

Trauma- is usually caused by severe trauma to your spine. For example, a car accident, falling off a horse, or sports injury.

Scoliosis does not usually cause symptoms or pain as a child or teen, as you get older you are more likely to start feeling some pain. When scoliosis is severe it may cause complications with your heart, lung, and other organs.

It is always important to have a skilled physician like a chiropractor to check to see if you have scoliosis. There are exams and x-ray that can help diagnose scoliosis. To help prevent scoliosis even further, you can also eat healthier, exercise, and most of all stay well adjusted.
